I’ve been making music for most of my life. One of my earliest memories is from first or second grade, when a classmate’s Yellow Submarine snow globe shattered during show-and-tell. He started crying, and I started singing the Beatles song. Eventually the rest of the class joined in. I remember realizing then how a song could change the feeling in a room.

I began writing music at 11 years old, studied vocal performance at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and later went on to earn a B.A. in Popular Music Studies with a minor in Music Technology from the University of Oregon.

Collaboration became a major part of my musical life early on. I began recording for producers in high school and later found a community in electronic music where one project regularly led to another. Since then, I’ve worked as a vocalist and songwriter across electronic, ambient, indie, and alternative music, releasing collaborative work both independently and under previous projects including Amethyst and Ltl Dmns. My work has been released through labels including bitbird and secretsouls, shared by outlets including BBC Radio 6 and UKF, and heard millions of times across streaming platforms.

I still love being the voice inside other people’s records, but after years of collaborating, I wanted to build a world of my own. Jo Avelin became the home for more personal songwriting. My debut single, Flying Saucers, was released at the end of 2025 and later independently selected by TIDAL for one of its editorial indie playlists.

I’m now making Keepsake, my debut full-length record. After years of writing, singing, and helping bring other people’s music to life, I’m excited to finally give the same attention to a body of work that is entirely my own.
